Jim is a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, the only committee in the House of Representatives with subpoena power.  

In 2008, Jim and the OGR Committee launched an investigation into fraud within the electric co-op industry.  Jim unearthed details on millions of dollars owed to the real owners of the co-ops, the consumers.  At the hearing, the co-op's desperate lobbyist chose to make false charges against Jim rather than to defend the scandals in his industry, or produce key witnesses who were evading subpeonas by federal marshals.  (http://www.cooper.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=191&Itemid=1)
